Green Lungs

For the seventh consecutive year, Co-PLAN continues alternative environmental monitoring, through Green Lungs.

Green Lungs is one of the civil society initiatives, which stands as the only source of information regarding alternative monitoring of air quality, noise levels and ecosystem services, with a focus on urban greening.

The initiative for alternative air quality monitoring was initially financially supported by the EU Delegation to Albania for the period 2017-2021, then supported by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) through the first phase of the GreenAL project 2021-2023. Noting the interest in data on the monitoring of the main air pollutants in the country's cities, this methodology will continue to be applied for the period 2024-2027 with the financial support of Sida through GreenAL.

Where are we monitoring?

Monitoring is being carried out in six municipalities of the country: Tirana, Durrës, Elbasan, Shkodër, Korçë and Fier, mainly in the urban areas of these municipalities.

Parameters being measured with the IQAir device
PM2.5, CO2, AQI

For noise pollution monitoring, the device being used is Testo 815.
For water quality monitoring, the devices being used are LaquaTWIN and HORIBA Multiparameter U-52 Meter.
